Easter Sunrise Service
The traditional outdoor Easter Sunrise Service on Sunday, April 4th will be held this year at St. Andrews by the Sea in Hyannisport, beginning at 6:00 AM.
This community service will be led by clergy from The Federated Church of Hyannis (Rev. Derek L. White and Deacon Rene’ King), the First Baptist Church of Hyannis (Rev. Robert Killefer), First Baptist Church minister, Rev. Stephen Trimble, St. Andrews by the Sea Chapel (Rev. Robert Antony, retired) the Rock Church (Pastor Jacqueline Johnson) and Pastor Aolonso Dacunha of the Brazilian Presbyterian Church. The service has a 90 year history of various churches and clergy involvement from the Hyannis area. Last year the service was cancelled because of the pandemic.
The tradition of gathering at sunrise on Easter goes back to the first Easter when the women went to the tomb to discover that Jesus had risen. For two thousand years Christians have gathered at first light on Easter morning all over the world believing that Jesus is the light of the world and to celebrate the miracle of his resurrection.
